What's new in Cliparr

Highlights

• Edit clip ranges directly on the media track, with improved timeline zoom, viewport controls, subtitle cue tracks, and mobile trimming controls.
• Undo and redo edits, discover keyboard shortcuts, and recover editor drafts saved on this device.
• Use simpler export settings, cancel exports in progress, and see size estimates based on the selected encoding plan.
• Get more reliable HLS trimming, video track selection, ProRes handling, and preview recovery.
• Connect providers more easily, including regular Jellyfin accounts, with improved Plex token selection.

Breaking changes and upgrade notes

Remote video URLs now require a signed-in provider session. Sign in to Plex or Jellyfin before opening a remote URL. Previously, this workflow was available without signing in. Local files still work without an account. This security correction is a breaking change in v2.0.0.

Proxied content can no longer execute scripts, HLS playlists larger than 8 MB are rejected, and exports fail when the selected video would otherwise be silently discarded.

Cliparr isn’t just an editing tool, it’s also an effective video converter. However, the editing UI can get in the way of a simple video conversion. So, we extracted the export functionality from Cliparr and made it accessible without needing to self-host anything yourself.

Beyond that there are several quality-of-life fixes; Jellyfin users should now have more reliable playback, and servers with many users can now easily filter playback to their preferred users.

GIF support

Created a custom fork of gifenc https://github.com/KyleTryon/gifenc to produce higher-quality GIFs in the browser. Try the new GIF export option for platforms that do not support mp4/webm.

Export size estimation

All export formats now include rough size estimations in the bottom left of the export panel.

The editor has been overhauled with a more professional “studio-grade” design, taking inspiration from industry standard editing applications. Each pane of the editor is now resizable.

Updated editor controls now reder optimally to reduce repainting and layout shifts. Time fields are now inputs.
